Board Meeting Minutes - May 1, 2008

Randy Fry presiding

In Attendance: Vicki Hutcheson, Rick Hess, Randy Fry, Delores Miller, Gene Blakey, Paula Carter and Brenna Davis

Minutes: Paula was about to be razzed about requesting this meeting time and not showing when she came in. Gene moved, seconded by Delores, to accept the minutes as sent out. All in favor.

Treasurer’s Report: Ending balance is $4,601.58. The mixer, website and phone bills were paid. Brenna gave bills for the garage sale ads. She also stated that she had to get new stationery made as our website address was incorrect. She apologized for not noticing this error earlier. Brenna moved, seconded by Gene, to accept the report as passed out. All in favor.

Old Business: ▪GARAGE SALE—All is set up for Cody’s to sell the coffee and donuts for us. Gene will get the banner arranged at the “Chamber Pots” site and Brenna will put small signs on each unit.
▪JULY 4 – Paula gave information on several items: water bottles, safety blinking lights, tattoos, go green bags. Randy stated that he would be able to work the booth (Gene and Paula will be away) and get free ice. He also has a portable awning that can be used. After much discussion Gene moved, seconded by Brenna, to allot $600 for 25 cases of water, 1,000 tattoos and 250 blinking lights with our name on them. The go-green bags could be done for Halloween—giving members space to advertise on the bags. Leftover blinking lights could also be given out at Halloween. We will charge for the water and blinking lights and put a limit to the free tattoos—probably 2 per child. Randy will check with Cody’s and Price Cutter’s to see if they can help us with a good price on the water. ▪AUDIT—Randy has not contacted the CPA. Table till the June meeting.
▪INCOME TAX—Gene stated that he did this on line last year. Randy will look into this. ▪MIXER- The April mixer had 10 in attendance. Brian Morris, American Detection Services, sponsored. The May Mixer will be held on the 15th with Great Commission Realty sponsoring. This will again be a breakfast mixer.

New Business: ▪DRURY—Paula stated that the meeting went well. A survey response is being waited on and other areas looked at. Paula wanted to know how people can be reached. Vicki mentioned the Southwest section that is now delivered with the Penny Power. Randy stated he could get an article to them about happenings.

Misc.: ▪GROUND BREAKING- Russell Cellular will be having their ground breaking ceremony on Friday, May 9, 11:30am. This is located just south of Cody’s on FF. Parking should be done across the street at Battlefield Estates. A good Chamber showing would be greatly appreciated. (They plan on joining the Chamber.)
▪FYI’s—▪Burke Erectors is planning on putting in 1 or 2 other buildings in the area around their lot. ▪Exodus Technology will be ready for a ribbon cutting soon. ▪Subway has shown some interest in the area since the article in the News-Leader about McDonald’s. ▪The City is planning a park on Old Wire Road. Public input is wanted for this project. The plan so far includes a walking path & picnic area. ▪An auto detailing business is going in next to Burke Erectors. ▪Sapphire Mills wants a chamber member list. ▪Delores stated that an engineering firm has moved into the building by Godfather’s. ▪Paula will be representing the Chamber at the May 6 meeting on the Farmer’s Market. ▪McDonald’s plans to open by Sept.1.

Sincerely Submitted,
Brenna Davis,
Secretary
