A ground breaking on two fronts.

Battlefield, Missouri today celebrated a double ground breaking.  One was physical, one was for the dawn of a new round of economic development for the city.

At the northwest corner of FF Highway (West Bypass) and Republic Road (M Highway), the ground breaking ceremony today began the construction of the new Wilson Creek Marketplace.  This thirty-two acre shopping center will be anchored by a 50,000 square foot Price Cutter Plus grocery store.

Price Cutter is also building a new store about three miles north of this site, near the intersection of West Bypass and Sunshine Street.  This, however, is an exciting, new design for the franchise.

The Battlefield store will be an all prototype design for Price Cutter.  A new look that features green building technologies including the use of natural light, grey water collection, solar water heating, and motion detectors will all be used to minimize the store's carbon footprint.

Eric Taylor, President and CEO of Price Cutter stated that this store will still have what you are used to: a flower shop, pharmacy, Starbucks coffee, and a wide selection of grocery and household items.  New for this store will be a focus on prepared take-home meals including a salad bar, pastas, mexican, sushi, gelato, and Starbucks.

This development will also bring fourteen outlots to the corner.  In order to service the expected 25-30,000 cars per day at the intersection, there will be improvements made to Republic Road.  Foremost on that list will be the leveling of the hill immediately west of the West Bypass intersection to create a flat sight line for vehicles coming in and out of the new marketplace.

Battlefield Mayor Judy Stainback noted that this is the culmination of over nine months of planning and cooperation between several governmental entities.  She also suggested that this new McDonald's that opened last fall is part of a new wave of economic development for the community.  Price Cutter Plus also answers the public's number one request of the city recent surveys for a new grocery store.
