The Battle of Wilson's Creek, fought on August 10, 1861, was the second major battle of the Civil War and the first major Civil War battle fought west of the Mississippi River. It took place near the city of Battlefield on land that is now the Wilson's Creek National Battlefield. In remembrance of this important event in Southwest Missouri history, the Wilson's Creek Farmers Market and the City of Battlefield are pleased to have the 3rd Missouri Cavalry Regiment (Dismounted) at the Battlefield City Park to portray life in a Civil War camp.
